How long does a 3D product model take?

We count in working hours, not days: roughly 5 to 50 working hours per model, depending on the product and the level. A series goes faster per piece, because several of our 3D artists work to one standard.
Overview

The short answer

  1. One model is roughly 5 to 50 working hours, by product type and level.
  2. The hours include the shape, the details, inside and outside, and web preparation.
  3. Dozze: 17 items in 160 hours, a bottle 12 hours each.
  4. A series is faster per piece: several artists, one standard, work at the same time.
  5. The calendar grows while we wait for files or your review.

We count in working hours, not days

5 to 50 h

planning hours for one product model, from Essential jewelry to an unusually complex Bespoke piece, delivered with materials, light and the set of colours ready.

Our price list, 1 September 2026

The unit is one working hour. A level, from Essential to Bespoke, means a finished model, ready for the web, not just the bare shape.

Important to note: these are planning hours, not calendar days:

  1. Fashion goods (bags, leather, luggage): Essential 12, Standard 18, Premium 24, Bespoke 32 hours.
  2. Furniture and chairs: 8, 11, 18, 24 hours.
  3. Footwear: 10, 15, 20, 28 hours.
  4. Bottles and drinkware: 8, 12, 16, 20 hours.
  5. Jewelry: 5, 9, 14, 20 hours.
  6. Unusually complex Bespoke pieces can reach about 50 hours.
Ask any studio for hours per model. A date without hours is a guess.

What the hours include

Included in the hours of one model:

Not included: special materials made to order (for example a particular leather, fabric or print built from a sample), animations, building the configurator or the 3D window on your page, design work. On Dozze, the kids' bottle was 12 hours plus 4 for prints.

  1. The shape and all the details.
  2. The usual inside and outside.
  3. Preparation for the web.
  4. A model made as light as it can be: small file, real size.
A special material is added on top of the level. Tell us before the quote.

A real example: 17 items in 160 hours

160 h

of 3D work for 17 items on the Dozze configurator: 8 bottles and tumblers, 2 kids' bottles, 1 food jar, 6 lids.

Our own measurement after delivery, 2 September 2026

Dozze water bottle configurator. Our team measured the 3D work after delivery, on 2 September 2026: 160 working hours for 17 items.

The calendar was longer than the hours. Project start 1 April 2026, delivery deadline 22 May 2026. The same project also included the Shopify configurator and the design, not only the models.

  1. 8 bottles and tumblers, 12 hours each. Model, materials and light, 10 colours each.
  2. 2 kids' bottles, 16 hours each. Special material preparation for 4 prints.
  3. 1 food jar, 8 hours.
  4. 6 matching lids, 2 to 6 hours each. A new lid 6, materials and light plus colours 4, colours only 4, materials and light only 2.
Count items, not products. A lid is an item too.

A series is faster: one standard, several artists

Our work follows one written standard. Every artist builds to it, so a series does not wait for one person: several artists work at the same time, and every piece comes out the same.

The first product carries the preparation. Materials and light are built once, and every next piece uses them. A first product is a matter of days once we have what we need from you, and a series goes faster per piece. Dozze: a bottle with model, materials, light and 10 colours, 12 hours; colours only on a lid, 4 hours.

  1. One file format (GLB), the full file from the artist; the automatic step that makes it smaller is ours.
  2. Up to about 100,000 triangles (the small surfaces a model is built from) per product.
  3. Material images up to 2048 by 2048 pixels.
  4. Real size in metres.
  5. A file that does not meet the standard goes back to the artist.
Bulk orders are faster per piece because every artist builds to one standard.

What makes the calendar longer

Two things stretch the calendar, and neither is modelling: waiting for your files or your product, and your review rounds.

Review rounds are the part we cannot promise. They depend on how fast your side answers and how many people have to agree. We do not keep a count of rounds per project, so I will not give you an average.

  1. 01Before the start: the technical drawing files (CAD) or the product itself. A product page link or photographs help.
  2. 02A list of every version: colours, materials, parts that change. It decides the hours.
  3. 03One person who approves, so a review round ends with one answer.
  4. 04Each review round waits for your answer before the next hours begin.
  5. 05The quote is valid 14 days. After that, the start date moves.
The first product is a matter of days once we have what we need from you.
Extra · one whole project

Example: every hour of one whole project

A configurator project of the Dozze size, hour by hour. The modelling hours are measured on Dozze; the other hours are our planning estimate for a project of this size.

What to take away
  1. Plan in hours: roughly 5 to 50 per model, with the shape, details, inside, outside and web preparation included.
  2. Rule: a series is faster per piece, because several artists build to one standard, at the same time.
  3. Number: 280 hours for one whole configurator project, 160 of them modelling.
